Drilling Equipment Maintenance for Sustained Durability

Successful contract drilling companies know that production levels and equipment must always be up to par. Drilling equipment endures stress that cannot be completely eliminated, but it can be controlled.

VDC took a unique approach to solving the problem of equipment breakdown and downtime and paved the way to profitability for its clients.

The founders of VDC recognized that maintenance was crucial to ensuring a long life for equipment. VDC developed a unique partnership with Brandeis Machinery, a highly trained equipment provider. Through a Total Maintenance and Repair contract (TMR), Brandeis performs all routine preventative maintenance—and unforeseen repairs. Brandies uses a fleet of service trucks to provide 24/7 on-site equipment servicing at VDC drilling sites.

Now that this innovative partnership is in place, equipment at VDC has a longer than average lifespan. For example, drills with 20,000 hours run better than others who have drills with only 10,000 hours. It’s not uncommon for VDC to see a 40 percent increase in the life of its drill components. Lost productivity and down time have been nearly eliminated. Additionally, VDC gained access to the extensive parts inventory kept by Brandies Machinery and therefore VDC no longer incurs the added expensive of stocking replacement parts for their drilling rigs.
